Laser hair removal

The Candela laser at Sky High Spa, Kamloops

Laser hair removal at Sky High Spa is done on a Candela laser that carries two wavelengths in one machine. This page explains, in plain words, what that means for you.

Two wavelengths, one machine

Candela describes its dual-wavelength hair removal laser as combining a 755 nm alexandrite laser and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser.

In Candela's own description, the 755 nm alexandrite wavelength is the one used for lighter skin tones, and the 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength is the one used for darker skin tones. Having both in one machine is what lets a clinic choose a setting for the person in front of it.

Which wavelength and settings are right for you depends on your skin and your hair. That is decided at the consultation, not from a web page.

What laser can and cannot promise

Hair removal lasers are cleared for permanent hair reduction: a lasting reduction in the amount of hair that grows back after a course of treatments. Nobody can honestly promise that every hair will be gone for good.

Laser works on hair that is in its growth phase, so a course of sessions is needed. At Sky High Spa every area is sold as a single session or in packages of 3 or 6.

Questions about the laser

Is it suitable for my skin tone?
The laser has a wavelength Candela describes for lighter skin tones and one it describes for darker skin tones. Whether laser is right for your skin and hair is settled at the free consultation.
Is it a laser or IPL?
It is a laser. IPL (intense pulsed light) is a different technology that uses a broad band of light instead of a single wavelength.
