How to prepare for laser hair removal
A short checklist for the days before a laser session at Sky High Spa in Kamloops, and the questions people ask most about getting ready.

The checklist
Before your session
- Shave the area the day before your session. Between sessions, do not wax, sugar, pluck or use hair-removal cream on it: laser needs the hair in the follicle.
- Keep the area out of the sun, tanning beds and self-tan before your sessions, and say so if it has a tan.
- Come with clean skin on the area: no lotion, oil or perfume there.
- Tell your technician about any medication, skin condition or recent treatment on the area, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- On the day, come without makeup, deodorant or lotion on the area you are treating.
General guidance. At your appointment you are told what applies to you.

Getting-ready questions
Should you shave before laser hair removal?
Yes, the day before. The laser then reaches the hair under the skin instead of hair lying on top of it.
Can you trim instead of shaving?
Shaving is better: trimming leaves hair above the skin.
What creams or skincare should I avoid before laser?
Self-tan on the area, and tell your technician about retinoid creams, exfoliating acids or recent peels on the area. Follow the advice you are given.
What medications should I mention?
Any medication, especially anything that makes your skin more sensitive to light. Tell your technician before the session.
Should I shave before the consultation?
Ask when you book. Shaving is for the session itself.
